Bracing & support FAQs

How is SoleFit different from other bracing clinics?

Many clinics simply do walk-in appointments with little evaluation to the type of product that would best benefit a client. At SoleFit, we take the time with our clients to explain options and thoroughly assess for the best option.

Do I have to make an appointment?

We are not a retail store, so the vast majority of our day consists of pre-booked appointments. All bracing clients are required to book a 30 minute initial appointment. We also offer a 15 minute booked consultation for other products with one of our pedorthists.

How do I purchase bracing and recovery products from you?

All custom clients must book an assessment appointment to start, and are required to have a doctor’s prescription with diagnosis so we can choose a product best suited to your needs. We can occasionally accommodate walk-ins, but suggest you book a 15 minute complimentary consultation to purchase other products with the guidance of our pedorthists.

Do you carry products in stock or will you have to order what I require?

We suggest you contact us about a product type and size before stopping by our clinic so we can make sure we have what you need. If not, we can order most anything and get it within a very reasonable time frame.

What is your turnaround if a custom brace or non-stock item needs to be ordered?

Many OTS items can be obtained within 2-3 business days from time of order. Custom products typically take 5-10 business days. Items that are backordered can be identified at the time the order is placed.

What brands of braces and recovery products do you carry?

Don Joy, Bauerfeind, Ossur, Medi, POP, EC3D, Correct Toes, Sole, Superfeet, Tiger Tail, Yoga Tune Up, and others.

I’ve seen ____ online. Can you order this for me?

Since we only stock a small amount of product in the clinic, many other items are available to order. Contact us to discuss your needs, no matter how unique!

Can I make an insurance claim for bracing and recovery products?

Contact your insurance company to find out the parameters of your particular plan. Cost estimates can be provided before the product is ordered to ensure coverage.

What do I need to bring for a bracing appointment?

Loose pants or shorts must be brought to your appointment to ensure accurate measurements.

Do I need a referral before I come to your clinic?

A prescription with a diagnosis is required for knee braces and compression garments. Other products do not require a referral.

Should I get my brace before or after my surgery?

Some of our clients choose to use a brace before surgery, and some after. There isn’t a definitive answer, and it depends when you would like to start using the brace and/or when surgery is scheduled. Your pedorthist can discuss the possibility of changes to the leg shape post surgery and the effect on your brace when you are assessed.

I’m nervous about wearing a big bulky brace. Are all braces like this?

Brace manufacturers are always evolving their products and have many different options for material thickness and support depending on the severity of your issue. We can discuss these options with you and find what you are most comfortable wearing so that you can maintain compliance.

What is the difference between the compression garments I can buy in a retail store and what I can buy from your clinic?

Generally, compression products sold in a retail setting are non-prescription and thus are lower level of compression. In a clinical setting, we have many more options for different levels of compression that do need to be prescribed. Correct sizing is vital to make sure the product gives you the correct compression level.

What are the different types of compression? What do compression classes mean?

Sport compression garments are typically used during and after activity and provide compression to muscle groups. Daily use compression can be worn anytime besides sleeping and provides graduated compression through the whole extremity. OTS compression is under 20mmHg, and prescription compression is above 20mmHG to 40mmHg+.

Do you have a returns policy? Can I return my brace/orthotics/etc?

None of our OTS or custom products are able to be returned or exchanged besides Correct Toes and SUPERfeet. If you have any issues with defects or breakdown, please contact us for further guidance and options.

Whether you need a custom knee brace, off-the-shelf support, or advice on recovery tools, our team is ready to help. Contact us to book your bracing assessment or a 15-minute fitting, and find the perfect solution for your needs.
