Knee Braces in Ottawa & Vancouver

Our two SoleFit clinics locations in Westboro, Ottawa and Kitsilano, Vancouver carry custom knee braces, off the shelf knee braces, ankle braces, compression socks and sleeves, off the shelf arch supports, splints and more!  We carry products from Bauerfeind, DonJoy, Ossur, Medi and others to ensure our patients are getting the best possible products on the market.  We take pride in continually researching to find the lightest, most breathable products to fit seamlessly into your lifestyle.

All clients who require knee bracing are booked for a 1 hour bracing assessment to determine the best possible brace for their needs. A prescription detailing the medical diagnosis of the knee condition is required. Measurements are usually taken during this appointment and a cost estimate can be provided at the patients request. Our suppliers generally have quick turnaround times for custom and off the shelf knee bracing, so we are often able to fit your brace within 1-2 weeks of processing the order. For custom knee braces, a non-refundable 50% deposit is due at the time of order. Follow up appointments for fit issues or comfort are no charge within one year of purchasing the brace. We can also order extra accessories for nearly any brace, even if not purchased at our clinic. Undersleeves, extra pads and strap kits can be helpful to many of our knee bracing clients.

For those who don’t require a custom or off the shelf framed knee brace, we have the option to book a complimentary 15 minute fitting for our other products. Typically, this appointment would be to size an ankle brace, compression stocking, off the shelf arch support, or night splint. This appointment is booked with one of our Certified Pedorthists and during this time, they can advise you if it would be beneficial to do a full 1 hour brace assessment or a full 1 hour gait analysis if your condition warrants.

In general, we do not offer walk-in appointments as our team of Certified Pedorthists are usually busy with pre-booked appointments during the day. However, if there is an item you wish to purchase or if you already know your sizing, please contact us and our receptionist would be pleased to help with your request.

Knee/Ankle/Back Braces FAQ

How is SoleFit differs from other knee/ankle/back bracing clinics?

We would like you to love your knee/ankle/back brace and cringe at the thought of overpriced products collecting dust because they are too thick, bulky, thick, etc.

Do I have to schedule an appointment?

At SoleFit, we take the time to assess our clients to determine what type of product is right for them. We like to fully understand the type of injury, patient activity level, and general joint and muscle function in order to recommend the correct product. This may take a bit more time initially, but in the end, we think it results in maximum compliance and patient satisfaction.

How do I purchase knee/ankle/back bracing and recovery products from you?

For custom knee braces and medical compression garments, we require that you schedule an appointment with us to determine the product needed and to take measurements to order the item. A doctor’s prescription with diagnosis is necessary for the first appointment. For off the shelf products, an appointment is suggested, but we can accommodate walk-ins if one of our pedorthists is available. Our clinic primarily sees clients for pre-booked appointments, so please call ahead to find out when we can best accommodate your schedule.

Do you carry products in stock or will you have to order what I require?

We carry a small selection of commonly recommended off the shelf products in stock. Custom made items or non-stock sizes, colours, etc. must be ordered.

What is your turnaround if a custom brace or non-stock item needs to be ordered?

The manufacturers we work with generally ship products to us within 1-2 weeks, if not sooner. Custom items or backordered products may take a little longer to get to us.

What brands of knee/ankle/back braces and recovery products do you carry?

Breg, Bledsoe, Ossur, Bauerfeind, Don Joy, Medi, EC3D, POP, etc.

I’ve seen ____ online. Can you order this for me?

If the product is available from one of our suppliers, then it’s very easy to order a unique product (non-refundable deposit required). If not, we can do our best to source it for you.

Can I make an insurance claim for knee/ankle/back bracing and recovery products?

Most insurance companies will cover some bracing and recovery products. Check your individual plan for more details. We can provide all neccessary receipts or cost estimates required.

What do I need to bring for my knee/back/ankle brace appointment?

Shorts and comfortable footwear.

Do I need a referral to come to your clinic?

For custom bracing products and medical grade compression garments, we do need a doctor's diagnosis/prescription before you make your appointment. For OTC items, we do not require a referral.

Should I get my knee/ankle/back brace before or after my surgery?

This depends on your injury and recommendations from your physician. If you can get usage from your brace pre-surgery, we can measure and order anytime. Occasionally, we need to refit/remeasure post-surgery if a dramatic leg shape change has happened. We specialize in highly adjustable products that usually do not need to be refit.

I’m nervous about wearing a big bulky knee/ankle/back brace. Are all braces like this?

Through our bracing assessment, we take the time to find out exactly why our patients require a brace and what they are comfortable wearing. There are so many options out there for low profile, highly compliant, easy to wear braces and compression garments. We would rather you wear a brace that does not provide 100% correction, but that you’re willing to wear, over a brace that provides 100% correction but sits in your closet!

What is the difference between the compression garments I can buy in a retail store and what I can buy from your clinic?

As a medical clinic, we do have access to products and training that differs from what you can buy in the typical retail setting. That being said, make sure your compression garment is properly measured and sized correctly wherever you purchase the product to ensure maximum benefit.

What are the different types of compression? What do compression classes mean?

In general, there are two types of compression: sport and daily use. Sport compression is worn during activity and targets specific muscle groups. Daily use compression is worn outside of activity and targets the entire leg with circular knit graduated compression. Different compression classes signify what level of compression is advised by your physician: OTC (<20 mmHG), Class 1 (20-30 mmHg), Class 2 (30-40 mmHg), Class 3 (40+ mmHg)

Do you have a returns policy? Can I return my knee/ankle/back brace?

Unfortunately, we do not accept returns on bracing and recovery items with the exception of SUPERfeet and Correct Toes.  We do have a warranty policy however, in that any item can be modified or exchanged if it is mechanically or materially defective in any way.  We take great pride in our pedorthic expertise to ensure that we are recommending products prior to purchase to ensure the patient is getting the best possible fit for their needs!
