As specialists who deal with many lower leg conditions, we have certainly seen our fair share of plantar fasciitis. In plain terms, plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the fibrous fascia underneath the foot.

The human body is truly remarkable. We have so many elaborate systems working in symmetry (hopefully!) to enable us to make it through the day. As pedorthists, one of these systems that we devote a fair bit of attention to is the feet.

We’re well into that time of year when we see a parade of ski boots and skates coming through the doors at SoleFit! With the holiday season over and the Rideau canal and ski hills open, many people are dusting off their winter sports equipment. Despite the obvious differences between skates and ski boots, these types of sport specific footwear actually have a lot in common: they are notorious for causing problems for anyone who doesn’t have an average foot (which is a lot of people!). Because skates and ski boots do not have as many variations as, say, a running shoe, most people have issues achieving proper fit, comfort, and support. A key component to long term foot and body health is to try and restore good technique and function to our bodies after injury. When in pain, our short term goals should often be to protect the area and allow things to heal. However, once the injury has healed, we should ideally try to look for ways to prevent that injury from re-occuring. The videos below are a few examples of ways to help return proper function to the body.
